The initial impression of the place was great because it's away from the city and overlooking the river. The manager/owner Melissa displayed great knowledge about how she runs the business and seemed to be such a caring person for the deceased and their families. I buried my husband there in March in their green burial section. A couple of month later, I noticed the grave was still barren; however it was left on the burrial date, it stayed the same. I made several attempts to contact Melissa, no phone calls or emails returned. Finally, I called again and her husband answered. He promised to seed the grave IMMEDIATLY. Unbeknown to me, three months later, not only nothing has to be done on the grave, but also the headstone which took months to make is simply laid on the ground; imagine a slab of granite stone just laying there. So I tried to contact Melissa again. No phone calls and email returned. Finally I got through today, husband answered the phone. After listened to my concerns regarding grass and the headstone, he impatiently said: " look at everyone's grave, the grass is all brown. "He apparently wasn't listening. He never seeded grass in the first place! Then he promised he would seed the grave as soon as the weather permits. When it came to the headstone, he admitted he needed to actually lay the headstone. I don't agree it should take more than 5 months to completed the task. When they asked the money dues, it was immediate. But when it comes to getting their job done, taking 6 months is not a big deal. I'm still not sure if this can be done soon. But the real issue here is why they do not respond to my calls or email. The husband In stead of apologize sincerely, he rushed me hang up the phone. Dealing with a death is emotional, now looking at my husband's grave so unattended is even more emotional. Yes, Woodlawn Cemetary is more competitive as far as the price goes, but it doesn't mean their service should be compromised. As soon as I'm sold, the communication between me and Melisa shut off. I understand there are a lot involved with the family business. However, being in service industry myself, I also know the importance of keeping happy customers which leads to a long lasting relationship. I truly hope they will come to a realization that earning customer's business takes time and it doesn't end at the closure of the trasaction.

I own Monroe Floral and I was very impressed with there professional service with my drivers and the tribute pieces that have delivered to them. When I have called they have given me accurate and helpful information for my customers,

Good place

not the most well maintained cemetery but great, peaceful countryside location.

PS: the owner Melissa emailed me on the day I posted my one star review. She explained why the grave was not yet covered with the grass and why the headstone was delayed to be laid. In fact, they laid the headstone right away on the same day. She also apologized and hoped I would understand there were just her and her husband running the operation which is the reason of their lower price. I truly appreciate she emailed me back. So I changed to 3 stars, would like to mark another half star, but the site doesn't have such functionality. The reason of me not giving them all 4 or 5 stars are, which I also stated in my email to Melissa: first I think it's imperative for a business to respond to customers' requests in a timely manner. Woodlawn needs to do better in this area. Second, set the reasonable expectation at the beginning. In my case, I would like to know what impacts my husband's grave during summer, how long would it take for the headstone to be laid and so on. I wish Woodlawn Cemetary a great success in their business because it's indeed a nice place. As my relationship continues with them, I might come back to adjust my rating to fairly reflect their business practice.

We buried our daughter in the green section of the cemetery two years ago. Melissa took lots of time with us to help us choose the best plot and more time explaining about grave markers. They kept in touch with us as needed until the marker was placed and planted a tree as we requested during the appropriate season. They seem to have cared for it correctly as it is looking very nice two years later. We have been very happy with the service and the grounds. It is a peaceful and beautiful place.
