My first experience with pilchuck left a very bad taste in my mouth. I brought in a kitten who I had gotten 3 days prior. She was dehydrated (vomiting, diarrhea). Of course it happened over the weekend right as the regular clinic was closing so it was an 'emergency'. The vet examined her and said she needed to be kept for the weekend, needed extensive testing and iv hydration. They brought in an estimate of $1200. I said no, so they hydrated her with some subcutaneous hydration and gave me some meds for her to be given at home. in 5 hours she was fine and the bill was $400.
We had a very good experience with Pilchuck. Lets be clear, they are expensive, but our puppy who went in with parvo is alive and happy, so it was worth it to us. We chained called for updates and the front was always courtesy and found a vet tech or doctor for us to talk to. They called us each night with an update on Gordon and the finances. There puppy package (non-emergency) is EXPENSIVE, but they knew what was going on with Gordon so we are staying. One thing that is fantastic is that they have lab in house, so no waiting two+ days for results when your pet is sick. Not sure if we will transfer our pup to VCA where our other two currently go or keep him w/pilchuck yet.
In addition to all of this I feel like they were missed treating her as well possibly in an abusive way. There was a sign on her kennel that said "danger aggressive dog bites"and they would handle her with these large gloves or a towel, the doctor at the hospital she is at now was cuddling with her and talking about how sweet she is. They always say dogs have a sense of people and places well I can tell you that my dog was very uncomfortable with Pilchuck hospital and had her guard up. We paid $2376.76 for a bunch of unnecessary dangerous treatments it's very likely my dog would've been out of the hospital within a few hours had they treated her properly and had Dr. Murray not ignored the radiologists opinion.
If you can find any other resource to help with your animals I highly recommend going somewhere else. It's obvious that Pilchuck Veterinary does not care about the animals, they only care about he money and they will take full advantage of you in your weakest and most vulnerable moments. This place is totally unethical, they are fear mongers looking to make a quick buck and we're now looking at our options to complain to the authorities for possible compliance violations.
We gave them the benefit of he doubt due to the after hours emergency circumstances and although we believed they were taking advantage of our situation to "gauge" us. Nevertheless, after paying $1,000's (about $5000) for our cats emergency services, we were told to see if his paw would heal on its own over time. So we waited a full year to see how his paw responded and it never has healed since.
Fast forward to this visit, different kitten, same issue, but scheduled visit. I got out the door for $50...why the change? Almost the same treatmen.
Pilchuck hospital played on my love for Dora, withheld very valuable information and failed to give her medication that could have had her out of the hospital 12 hours sooner. Pilchuck hospital treated my dog with very dangerous medications that could have killed her by putting her into kidney failure. We seen four doctors in two days 2 of which had no direct knowledge of my Dogs issues they blamed their lack of information on their shifts. The doctors at Pilchuck hospital do not even see the patients that were hospitalized by another doctor. After the patient has been hospitalized only the veterinary technicians deal with the case from there. I think it's a scam they have the doctors working off shifts so you never get to see the same doctor twice, that way one doctor can tell you one thing another doctor can tell you something else and Pilchuck is never responsible for anything. The hospital she is at now completely disagrees with the congestive heart failure diagnoses and immediately took my dog off the heart medications she was prescribed.
It's really upsetting when you find a veterinarian that you like and then come to find out that there not going to be carrying the type of flea medicine that you need for your dog. To get the medicine I need I will have to pay an office visit for them to see my dog before they will give me some flea medicine that's even with them sending over my dog's record or I could order it online where they want you to buy 6 months at a time not what I can afford at this time ...won't be coming back here!
Last week after a year of healing and no follow-up calls from Pilchuck we decided we need to get his paw either re-broken or removed completely because it's hindering his ability to be get around. Even after our original bad experience with Pilchuck Vet, we wanted to take our cat to the same place he was originally taken to (Pilchuck) because at least they were familiar with the situation and we thought that after paying $1,000's but not fixing him that they would be considerate and do what they could for a fair price. They said they recommend amputation and quoted $1200-$1500 which we we're thinking was high but that's the best they said they could do. So we scheduled the appointment for surgery anyways and then my wife took the day off work to bring him in on the day of surgery. At the last minute they started gauging us again, now saying it will be $1800-$2200 and we're extremely unapologetic and round about it when my wife reminded them we were quoted nearly $1000 less originally (last week).
The rates and services for this place are totally out of line. We had an emergency with our cat that got ran over and Pilchuck was the only one available to help after hours. Little did we know what we were getting into with their outrageous pricing. We were out of town and our sitter was the one handling the situation. They told us over the phone that they weren't sure he'd make it through the night although come to find out it was just his paw that was broken, so thinking back they were fear mongering us for more profit!!!
Loved our interactions with the vet and our new dog too. That visit was a little pricey but great interaction.
This is a warning do not bring your loved one to this location you will be played for every dime you can pay.
